Winter Resort Activities at Timber Bay Lodge, Ely, Minnesota

Snuggled in the crystal white snow among the towering pine trees, Timber Bay Lodge has two four-season large cabins for you family reunion, friends getaway or retreat.  The Bear Trap has six bedrooms with a loft, all surrounded in knotty pine and relaxing log furniture. The cozy yet spacious great room with a large rock fireplace, provides for a spectacular view of Birch Lake. The brand new (Fall 2019!) Bent Paddle has four bedrooms and three bathrooms. The main floor features a spacious Great Room with rock fireplace, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large kitchen & dining area, and a screened-in porch.

They are the perfect home base for Minnesota winter vacation. Whether you’re into snowmobiling, ice fishing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing or just sitting by the fire, Timber Bay Lodge is a great winter Minnesota Resort.

  • Explore Birch Lake, near Ely, Minnesota. Get out your cross country skis or snowshoes and explore one of the many bays or islands along the shoreline, or enjoy the solitude of the Birch Lake Plantation Cross Country ski trail.
  • Snowmobile the Taconite Spur Trail located at the edge of Timber Bay Lodge. The trails from Timber Bay Lodge provide you with so many choices. Turn right and you can ride to Ely, International Falls, Grand Rapids, or Giants Ridge. Turn left and it’s off to Minnesota’s North Shore of Lake Superior. We can also make arrangements for your snowmobile rentals. They’ll be ready and waiting for your arrival.
  • Downhill ski at Giants Ridge, located just 35 miles from Timber Bay Lodge. Giants Ridge is a family oriented Minnesota ski resort for all ages and abilities yet rarely a waiting line. It also provides miles of pristine cross country ski trails.
  • Got kids or feel like a kid? You can build some amazing snowmen, go skating or even do a little sledding. Play all day and get back in time for cocoa.
