Field & Stream, the world’s leading outdoor publication, has released a list of America’s Top 20 Fishing Towns in their February 2008 issue. The magazine polled the nation’s top angling professionals to determine the list, comprised of towns with populations of 100,000 or less.
Ely Minnesota is ranked number 12 in the nation!
The real beauty here is how easy it is to get off the beaten path. If you find yourself reflecting on your youth, imagining bygone fishing trips with your grandfather, check out Ely, because the sights, sounds (like loons on the pond), and experiences are almost exactly the same now as they were back then.
Pulled from a recent book by Sarah Tuff and Greg Melville (“101 Best Outdoor Towns: Unspoiled Places to Visit, Live & Play” The Countryman Press, 2007), MSN City Guide recently named Ely Minnesota one of the top outdoor towns:
Perched on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, a 1.1 million-acre chunk of the Superior National Forest with more than 1,000 lakes, Ely is the launching place for classic canoe trips of virtually any length: a day, a week, a month.
Way to go Ely! (Ely is just a short hop away from Timber Bay Lodge & Houseboats)
